13.7 Koat-tēng kā tit-tio̍h ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ chhàng tī sin soaⁿ-tōng
Tî-liáu hit nn̄g-kha siuⁿ-á, góa koh hoat-hiān chi̍t sió-tháng ê chiú, iok 20 gallon [91 liter], góa khai bē-chió khùi-la̍t chiah kā poaⁿ chiūⁿ góa ê sió-chûn. Chûn-chhng lāi-bīn ū kúi-ki musket chhèng, koh ū chi̍t-ê tōa hóe-io̍h kak-tâng (powder-horn), lāi-bīn té iok 4-pōng [1.8 kg] ê hóe-io̍h. Musket chhèng, góa bô ki-hōe iōng, só͘-í bô kā gia̍h, kan-ta the̍h hit-ê hóe-io̍h kak-tâng. Góa koh the̍h chi̍t-ki hóe-thio kap chi̍t-ki hóe-nge̍h, che góa chin su-iàu, góa mā the̍h nn̄g-ê tâng tê-kó͘, chi̍t-ê chú chocolate ê tâng-oe, koh chi̍t-ê hang-bah ê thih-kè. Hit-àm, góa tī sio2-chûn-téng hioh-khùn, kàu thiⁿ-kng góa koat-tēng kā tit-tio̍h ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ chhàng tī sin soaⁿ-tōng, bô boeh chah khì siâⁿ-pó. Chia̍h kóa mi̍h-kiāⁿ liáu-āu, góa kā hòe poaⁿ chiūⁿ-hōaⁿ, koh siông-sè kā kiám-cha khòaⁿ-māi. Hit-tháng chiú sī rum, m̄-koh he hām goán tī Brazil ê bô kāng; chóng-kóng, che bô hó lim. Tán phah khui siuⁿ-á, góa hoat-hiān tùi góa chin ū-lō͘-iōng ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ -- kí-lē lâi kóng, kî-tiong chi̍t-ê siuⁿ-á ū chi̍t-ê chin súi ê chiú a̍p-á, chiú-koàn mā chin iù-tì, sī hó-lim koh ko-kip ê tiⁿ-chiú. Múi-koàn tāi-khài 3 pint [1.7 liter], koàn-á kòa sī gîn ê. Koh ū nn̄g-koàn ko-kip bi̍t-chiàn (succade), kòa khàm kah chin hó, bô sia̍p tio̍h hái-chúi, lēng-gōa nn̄g-koàn kāng-khoán ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ í-keng phàu tio̍h hái-chúi. Góa mā hoat-hiān chi̍t-kóa chin hó ê siatchuh, che góa chin su-iàu. Koh-ū tāi-khài cha̍p-chhit/peh tiâu pe̍h-sek môa-se chhiú-kin-á hām chhái-sek niá-kin. Lēng-gōa hit-ê siuⁿ-á lāi-bīn ū chi̍t-kóa saⁿ-á, tùi góa bô siáⁿ kè-ta̍t. Khòaⁿ khoán, chit-kha siuⁿ-á tiāⁿ-tio̍h sī sio̍k tī chûn-téng ê hù phàu-chhiú. Siuⁿ-á lāi ê hóe-io̍h bô chē, kan-ta nn̄g-pōng [0,9 kg] géng kah chin iù ê hóe-io̍h, kō͘ 3-ê koàn-á té, góa siūⁿ he sī boeh chng phah-chiáu chhèng iōng. Chóng-kóng, chit-chōa chhut-hái tit-tio̍h ū-lō͘-iōng ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ bô chē. Tùi góa lâi kóng, chîⁿ, bô sú-iōng ê ki-hōe, bē-su kha-ē ê thô͘, góa lêng-khó kō͘ he ōaⁿ saⁿ/sì-siang Eng-kok ê-á a̍h tn̂g boe̍h-á, che chiah sī góa só͘ su-iàu ê, góa í-keng chhiah-kha chin chē nî ah. M̄-koh, góa khak-si̍t ū tit-tio̍h nn̄g-siang ê-á, he sī ùi phòa-chûn téng hit nn̄g-ê im-sí ê lâng ê kha thǹg lo̍h-lâi ê. Góa mā tī kî-tiong chi̍t-kha siuⁿ-á hoat-hiān nn̄g-siang ê-á, che tong-jiân góa chin kah-ì. M̄-koh, in bô Eng-kok ê-á hiah hó-chhēng, nāi-chhēng, che put-kò sī khin-piān ê-á. Tī chit-kha chúi-chhiú siuⁿ-á, góa koh hoat-hiān iok 50-ê Sepanga gîn-pè, bô kim-pè. Góa siong-sìn, chit-kha siuⁿ-á ê chú-lâng khah sàn, lēng-gōa hit-kha siuⁿ-á ê chú-lâng khòaⁿ sī chi̍t-ê ko-kip chûn-oân.
Put-jî-kò, góa kā chiah-ê chîⁿ mā lóng thoa tńg soaⁿ-tōng, chhiūⁿ í-chêng án-ne kā siu hó-sè. Khó-sioh, góa bô hoat-tō͘ kàu chit-chiah chûn ê kî-thaⁿ pō͘-hūn, nā-bô góa tō ē-sái kō͘ to̍k-bo̍k-chiu ūn chîⁿ ūn kúi-ā chōa. Góa siūⁿ, jû-kó góa ē-tàng cháu tńg Eng-kok, kā chîⁿ lâu tī chia mā chin an-choân, tán í-āu chiah koh tńg-lâi chia the̍h.

13.7 決定 kā 得著 ê 物件藏 tī 新山洞
除了彼兩跤箱仔, 我 koh 發現一小桶 ê 酒, 約 20 gallon [91 liter], 我開袂少氣力才 kā 搬上我 ê 小船. 船艙內面有幾支 musket 銃, koh 有一个大火藥角筒 (powder-horn), 內面貯約 4 磅 [1.8 kg] ê 火藥. Musket 銃, 我無機會用, 所以無 kā 攑, 干焦提彼个火藥角筒. 我 koh 提一支火挑 kap 一支火 nge̍h, 這我真需要, 我 mā 提兩个銅茶鈷, 一个煮 chocolate ê 銅鍋, koh 一个烘肉 ê 鐵架. 扎 chiah-ê 貨, 連彼隻狗, 我離開, 這時海流開始適合我轉厝 -- 天烏未一點鐘, 我轉來到島, 人已經忝頭 kah 僐篤篤.
彼暗, 我 tī 小船頂歇睏, 到天光我決定 kā 得著 ê 物件藏 tī 新山洞, 無欲扎去城堡. 食寡物件了後, 我 kā 貨搬上岸, koh 詳細 kā 檢查看覓. 彼桶酒是 rum, m̄-koh he 和阮 tī Brazil ê 無仝; 總講, 這無好啉. 等拍開箱仔, 我發現對我真有路用 ê 物件 -- 舉例來講, 其中一个箱仔有一个真媠 ê 酒盒仔, 酒罐 mā 真幼致, 是好啉 koh 高級 ê 甜酒. 每罐大概 3 pint [1.7 liter], 罐仔蓋是銀 ê. Koh 有兩罐高級蜜餞 (succade), 蓋崁 kah 真好, 無涉著海水, 另外兩罐仝款 ê 物件已經泡著海水. 我 mā 發現一寡真好 ê siatchuh, 這我真需要. Koh 有大概十七八條白色麻紗手巾仔和彩色領巾. 手巾仔我有需要, 因為熱天拭面真爽神. 另外, 我 tī 箱仔 ê 錢盒發現 3 大袋 Sepanga 銀幣, 約 1,100 个, 其中一袋內面, 有 kō͘ 紙包 ê 6 塊 Sepanga 金幣, 和一寡細塊金條, 我估計重量有一磅 [454 g].
另外彼个箱仔內面有一寡衫仔, 對我無啥價值. 看款, 這跤箱仔定著是屬 tī 船頂 ê 副砲手. 箱仔內 ê 火藥無濟, 干焦兩磅 [0.9 kg] géng kah 真幼 ê 火藥, kō͘ 3 个罐仔貯, 我想彼是欲裝拍鳥銃用. 總講, 這逝出海得著有路用 ê 物件無濟. 對我來講, 錢, 無使用 ê 機會, 袂輸跤下 ê 塗, 我寧可 kō͘ 彼換三四雙英國鞋仔 a̍h 長襪仔, 這才是我所需要 ê, 我已經赤跤真濟年 ah. M̄-koh, 我確實有得著兩雙鞋仔, 彼是 ùi 破船頂彼兩个淹死 ê 人 ê 跤褪落來 ê. 我 mā tī 其中一跤箱仔發現兩雙鞋仔, 這當然我真佮意. M̄-koh, in 無英國鞋仔 hiah 好穿, 耐穿, 這不過是輕便鞋仔. Tī 這跤水手箱仔, 我 koh 發現約 50 个 Sepanga 銀幣, 無金幣. 我相信, 這跤箱仔 ê 主人較 sàn, 另外彼跤箱仔 ê 主人看是一个高級船員.
不而過, 我 kā chiah-ê 錢 mā lóng 拖轉山洞, 像以前 án-ne kā 收好勢. 可惜, 我無法度到這隻船 ê 其他部份, 若無我 tō 會使 kō͘ 獨木舟運錢運幾若逝. 我想, 如果我會當走轉英國, kā 錢留 tī chia mā 真安全, 等以後才 koh 轉來 chia 提.

I found, besides these chests, a little cask full of liquor, of about twenty gallons, which I got into my boat with much difficulty. There were several muskets in the cabin, and a great powder-horn, with about four pounds of powder in it; as for the muskets, I had no occasion for them, so I left them, but took the powder-horn. I took a fire-shovel and tongs, which I wanted extremely, as also two little brass kettles, a copper pot to make chocolate, and a gridiron; and with this cargo, and the dog, I came away, the tide beginning to make home again—and the same evening, about an hour within night, I reached the island again, weary and fatigued to the last degree. /
I reposed that night in the boat and in the morning I resolved to harbour what I had got in my new cave, and not carry it home to my castle. After refreshing myself, I got all my cargo on shore, and began to examine the particulars. The cask of liquor I found to be a kind of rum, but not such as we had at the Brazils; and, in a word, not at all good; but when I came to open the chests, I found several things of great use to me—for example, I found in one a fine case of bottles, of an extraordinary kind, and filled with cordial waters, fine and very good; the bottles held about three pints each, and were tipped with silver. I found two pots of very good succades, or sweetmeats, so fastened also on the top that the salt-water had not hurt them; and two more of the same, which the water had spoiled. I found some very good shirts, which were very welcome to me; and about a dozen and a half of white linen handkerchiefs and coloured neckcloths; the former were also very welcome, being exceedingly refreshing to wipe my face in a hot day. Besides this, when I came to the till in the chest, I found there three great bags of pieces of eight, which held about eleven hundred pieces in all; and in one of them, wrapped up in a paper, six doubloons of gold, and some small bars or wedges of gold; I suppose they might all weigh near a pound. /
In the other chest were some clothes, but of little value; but, by the circumstances, it must have belonged to the gunner’s mate; though there was no powder in it, except two pounds of fine glazed powder, in three flasks, kept, I suppose, for charging their fowling-pieces on occasion. Upon the whole, I got very little by this voyage that was of any use to me; for, as to the money, I had no manner of occasion for it; it was to me as the dirt under my feet, and I would have given it all for three or four pair of English shoes and stockings, which were things I greatly wanted, but had had none on my feet for many years. I had, indeed, got two pair of shoes now, which I took off the feet of two drowned men whom I saw in the wreck, and I found two pair more in one of the chests, which were very welcome to me; but they were not like our English shoes, either for ease or service, being rather what we call pumps than shoes. I found in this seaman’s chest about fifty pieces of eight, in rials, but no gold: I supposed this belonged to a poorer man than the other, which seemed to belong to some officer. /
Well, however, I lugged this money home to my cave, and laid it up, as I had done that before which I had brought from our own ship; but it was a great pity, as I said, that the other part of this ship had not come to my share: for I am satisfied I might have loaded my canoe several times over with money; and, thought I, if I ever escape to England, it might lie here safe enough till I come again and fetch it.
